A trip to New Mexico isn’t complete without a relaxation session at one of the hot springs in Truth or Consequences. These healing waters contribute to the state’s Southwestern charm and are highly sought after by visitors all around the country.
Before the city got its name in the 1950s, it was previously called “Hot Springs, NM”. Prior to the mid-20th century, the city had about 40 known hot springs. In 2008, just ten were left on the Hot Spring Association of Truth or Consequences list. Many of the spas, hotels and rental properties in town get their water from wells, but some acquire them from free-flowing thermal mineral water lines.
Locals treasure the hot and warm springs in this area and the amount of tourism it brings to the region. Some spring locations allow day-use guests, while others reserve their mineral waters for overnight stays. There are several facilities in Truth or Consequences Hot Springs Bathhouse Historic and Commercial District to get your fix of hot spring soaking.
La Paloma Hot Springs & Spa
This oasis in the desert is home to 13 gravel-bottom pools with natural flow bathhouses. There are 38 minerals found in the water at the property, which is the highest in the United States, and the pH balance rests at a solid seven. The central bathhouse is open every day of the week from 10 am to 10 pm.
This beautiful retreat and soaking tubs available are for day-use visitors and lodgers. If only coming for the day, reservations ahead of time are required. Soaks for lodgers are included in the nightly price at one of the rustic cabins. The natural water flowing through this property ranges from 98-116℉.
La Paloma Too
This property is affiliated with and is the second bathhouse on the property. See their website, as this bathhouse has different hours than the primary La Paloma location.

Riverbend Hot Springs
Set on the banks of the Rio Grande, the Riverbend Hot Springs property is a scenic, one-of-a-kind place with majestic views. The highlight of the location is the hot spring water, which fills eight pools and has a temperature anywhere from 95-108℉.
After guests finish soaking, they can use the cold shower to cool off and rest under the shaded river deck or covered patio area. The patio has lounge chairs, hammocks, papasans, evaporate coolers, and a fire pit used seasonally.
Offering several private and public soaking pool experiences, this property is one of the most trendy stops for hot springs. Day passes and overnight stays in their hotel and campground provide access to the water. No kids under 12 are permitted.
Lodging
Riverbend Hot Springs has casitas, suites, a double room, and standard artist rooms available for overnight stays. The casitas come with their own private hot spring baths, but all accommodations include a property pass to the other communal pools. Each Artist Room is sponsored by a local artist and displays their works on the walls.
Hoosier Hot Springs
Hoosier Hot Springs is home to three outdoor baths and one indoor one. Walk-ins are welcome to use the hot spring tubs during opening hours, but private sessions can be reserved ahead of time. There are showers located inside and outside the building for rinsing.
When the pools are being used privately, clothing is optional.
These hot pools are open seven days a week from 1-9 pm. The temperature of the mineral water runs at about 108℉. Children are allowed in with supervision.
Blackstone Hotsprings
Set in T or C’s downtown historic area, Blackstone Hotsprings is a resort created inside of a restored 1930s motor court.
This property has both day passes and rooms for overnight stays. Each room in the main building has its own private in-room bath for endless soaking. There are also indoor and outdoor communal tubs for walk-ins and a hot spring steam room with a massaging waterfall.
Lodging
There are ten luxury lodging rooms on the property, each with its own private hot springs bath. Additionally, overnight guests must say for a two-night minimum. Lodgers can use the communal hot pools at a discounted rate for 45 minutes as a perk for staying there.
Indian Springs Bath Houses
Located on Austin Street, Indian Springs has two concrete baths that can accommodate up to eight people in total at once. These rustic pools have a primarily natural spring water flow, so they are set underground. The facility is spotless, and the water is crystal clear. Open to walk-ins, soaking sessions are booked in 30-minute intervals and are some of the most affordable in town.
These two baths are indoors, each set in its own private, vintage wooden structure. The larger of them has a temperature of 105℉, while the other is slightly hotter at 109℉. Even though this location is simply a no-frills place to soak in the hot springs, it’s incredibly atmospheric and charming. Tourists love stopping by for its ease of use and memorable southwestern-style environment.
Lodging
Next to the bathhouses is the property’s 1930s hotel, which offers cozy rooms to crash for the evening. Past lodgers have remarked that it’s a very comfortable and quiet place to relax, especially with easy access to the water. Overnight lodgers get two complimentary half-hour sessions in the pools.
Charles Motel
The historic Charles Motel has been open since the 1940s and boasts an original, medical-style bathhouse and rooftop tubs for social soaking. The indoor tubs are private, designed for individuals, and are even still divided into men’s and women’s areas. Walk-in users and overnight guests are both welcome to soak for one-hour sessions at a time. After each use, tubs are drained entirely and cleaned before refilling again.
The water at Charles Motel’s pools is a steamy 110℉, give or take a degree. Clothing is required at all times, even in private baths. The rooftop tub operates well into the evening and the largest one seats up to six people, making it a fun choice for groups of friends.
Wellness services are also available on-site, such as body wraps, massage therapy, reflexology, yoga classes, and spiritual healings.
Lodging
The lodging portion of the property is located next to the bathhouses. Guests staying at the motel are given a complimentary one-hour soak per day. The rooms are designed to accentuate the spiritual, cleansing environment, fitted with cozy fixtures that appeal to all the senses. Most overnight rooms are equipped with a kitchen, where guests can cook up fresh-picked produce from the hotel’s garden or grocery store across the street.
Fire Water Lodge
Visitors looking for an artistic place to stay with a private geothermal mineral tub in their room should set their focus on the Fire Water Lodge. This artsy, restored vintage motor court has been converted to accommodate modern guests while retaining its dated charm. Located in the Historic Bathhouse District, this slice of heaven is the perfect hot springs retreat.
According to the lodge’s information, leader and medicine man Geronimo once spent a week soaking here. Legend has it that it was the only time he was ever known to be unarmed.
Each room at the lodge has its own name and theme, some with the tub on the inside while others are outside. Most rooms are designed for two people, but the Eucalyptus Room and Datura Room accommodate 3 or 4. Water temperatures range from 104-108℉, with a pH balance of 7.0. Sierra Grande Lodge & Spa
Featured as one of the hotels on National Geographic’s “Stay List,” is a one-stop destination for a thermal pool experience in T or C.
There are three indoor soaking pools and one outdoor pool, large enough for various group sizes. The mineral water temperature is 104℉, perfect for relaxing sore muscles and removing body tension. Soaking areas are made from concrete and tile. Walk-ins are welcome for day use, but it’s recommended to call ahead to make reservations.
Lodging
The 17 artsy guest rooms are tastefully decorated to provide a relaxing environment and reflect the culture of the Southwest. Each reservation comes with a 30-minute soak per day in one of the property’s pools. Clothing is optional during soaks because the experience is private.
Mothership Yoga Lounge & Hot Springs
Mothership is a retreat, lodge, and wellness center for solos or groups. Featuring a historic Southwestern-style bathhouse and yoga classes in the 1930s renovated adobe church, this center is for those looking to rejuvenate. The crystal soaking tub is a vitalizing experience, and the building is located within walking distance of downtown restaurants and attractions.

Visitors can stay at one of the five private accommodations, including their cabin and apartment-style rooms. Each lodging option has a private mineral hot spring bath, a kitchen, and plenty of room to stretch out and relax.
Hot Springs Glamp Camp
Hot Springs Glamp Camp has several unique and restored structures to book an overnight trip in. These vintage vehicles, trailers, and single-room camps are set up to accommodate contemporary travelers. There is also a separate area for guests with their own RVs or tents to camp.
This park has three hot spring mineral tubs for guests to use. These baths are open-air, available at all times, and sanitized once a day with all-natural CDC-approved cleaners. The water temperature varies from 107-111℉ and is drained after each use and offered on a first-come, first-served basis for lodgers at the park.
Aquarius Soak & Chill
This home is a fun, quirky vacation rental unit set in the Water District. The cottage has 750 square feet of space, a one-bedroom, and well-thought decor. Guests staying at have access to their own private, clothing-optional, temperature-controlled cowboy soaking tub. Water temperatures in the tub range from 70-125℉ since they can be adjusted to the visitor’s preference.
The inside of the house has many amenities for a relaxing and entertaining stay. Besides the hot springs water, some of the best features include a BBQ space, a smart TV, and two bicycles to explore the town with.
Pelican Spa
Pelican Spa is a boutique hotel and spa with secluded indoor Japanese-style tubs filled with hot mineral water. This therapeutic H2O is crystal clear and has natural temperatures varying from 102 to 112℉, but the tubs themselves are kept at about 105℉.
There are five indoor concrete tubs, four of which can fit two people and one that holds six people at once. Walk-ins are welcome from Sunday through Thursday.
Wellness Services
Studio de La Luz belongs to Pelican Springs and is located right in the courtyard. Several classes like Yoga, Reiki, and the Walk-in Wellness Clinic provide healing and rejuvenation services to visitors.
