P1 stands for “Position 1” and is used to denote the driver or team that is currently leading the race or session.

Class One racing is the highest class of powerboat racing in the world where boats can reach speeds in excess of 160mph, attracting teams from the United States, Dubai and Australia.

The race boats are powered by twin Mercury 300XS engines and can reach speeds nearing 110 mph.

The P1 is electronically limited to a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph). The P1 has a dry weight of 1,395 kg (3,075 lb), giving it a power-to-weight ratio of 656 PS/tonne.

In the E1 Series, all teams are set to use a hydrofoil boat named "RaceBird" which was designed by SeaBird Technologies in collaboration with the global SailGP racing league. The boats are powered exclusively by batteries and electric motors and are expected to reach speeds of up to 50 knots (93 kph).

F1 boats are powered by a Mercury Marine V6 two stroke that burns 100LL Avgas at a rate of 120 liters (32 gallons) per hour, generating over 400 horsepower at 10,500 rpm. This engine can propel the boats to 100 km/h (62 mph) in less than two seconds and to a maximum speed of over 250 km/h (155 mph).
